Rebellion

We will tear down their statues, we will bring down their signs,

we will wipe out their memory, from our homes and our land

We will blot out their names from our history books

we will smile and pretend we have made it all right

And with angry faces and unforgiving hearts

we will hold hands and sing, songs of love peace and joy

We are so much better than them, we are so different now,

we the righteous, we the freedom fighters, we the rebels of today

Oh rebellion you have a father, and his name is discontent

Oft, though not always well-intentioned,

this misguided offspring, driven by real or perceived injustice,

stirs unrest in the very place it calls home

Blinded by passion unfettered by wisdom, he moves relentlessly forward

unaware that deep within his heart, hidden from plain sight,

lies the same darkness which he strives to overthrow in others...

The pride of self which unequivocally states I am god
